Review: Dark and Deadly Box Set

12:14 PM 0 Comments

Hey Loves!! We have a review of an amazing box set for you today!

Dark and Deadly: Eight Bad Boys of Paranormal Romance
By Jennifer Ashley, Alyssa Day, Felicity Heaton, Erin Kellison, Laurie London, Erin Quinn, Bonnie Vanak and Caris Roane

Eight hot paranormal romances by New York Times and USA Today bestselling authors. Alpha-male bad boys will fulfill your darkest, most deadliest desires in these stories about shifters, werewolves, vampires, magic, special powers and other realms. But only if you dare…

BODYGUARD by Jennifer Ashley

Elizabeth Chapman is saved from an armed attacker by a Kodiak bear who shifts into a tight-bodied, naked human male. Ronan takes Elizabeth to Shiftertown, becoming her 24/7 bodyguard. The mateless Ronan has adopted a houseful of orphaned Shifters--having grown up in foster care, Elizabeth is touched by his protectiveness. Ronan only wants to keep Elizabeth safe, but the sassy woman is triggering his long-buried need to mate.

I really enjoyed this novella. While is number 2.5 in the Shifters Unbound series, I didn’t have any trouble understanding the world and the dynamics of the society Jennifer created.

Elizabeth has a quiet life as a shop owner, she wasn’t expecting anything to change but then one guy tries to rob her store and a giant bear comes to the rescue. The bear turns out to be a shifter, someone who in this world Jennifer Ashley created is a second class citizen. Shifters have to be controlled like the animals the society thinks they are, so when the police arrives, Ronan, the shifter, is send to jail for attacking a human.

Elizabeth helps Ronan to get out of jail but the guy who tried to rob her isn’t happy and neither is his brother. They want to silence her and now Ronan has to protect her.

We meet some very interesting characters living in Shiftertown who add elements to the story in little ways.
Elizabeth has been hurt in the past and trust doesn’t come easy to her but Ronan’s need to protect others puts them together in a lovely love story.
I fell in love with this bear shifter who could go from caring to funny to sexy in the blink of the eye.

The only things that bother me were some issues with the time line. I was lost in different points how fast or slow time was passing but it didn’t affect the story much.

While this book is not heavy in the steamy, it has plenty of tender moments that will have you melting and reaching for your closest teddy bear.

ALEJANDRO’S SORCERESS by Alyssa Day

He’s a warrior, hardened by years of protecting his town from vampire attack. She’s a garden witch who sees the world in shades of sunshine and delight. Opposites don’t only attract, they go supernova in this sizzling tale of magic and mayhem.

This little novella was a surprise of humor and loads of sexual tension.

Officer Alejandro has one purpose, protect people from the evil beings of the supernatural world. Rose is a witch who lives happily in a little town with her crazy family.
When an invasion of basilisk forces them together and Alejandro’s partner turns into a stone, the couple has to find a way of turning him back while fighting their attraction. Add a crazy grandmother, an overprotective and noisy mother and a sister who defends the basilisk.

Rose and Alejandro’s fear to their sudden and power attraction are very real. They way they try to remain reasonable and ignore it make it for some funny moments.

Overall this is a quick, funny read with the right dose of sexual tension and steamy moments.
The epilogue is really sweet, I really like it.

BEWITCH by Felicity Heaton

A vampire with a bloodstained past and a soul tainted with darkness, Payne is perfect in his self-control, never surrendering to his darkest desires. Now a beautiful witch in the shadowy fae underworld reawakens long denied hungers and tempts him with pleasure. When one incredible night of fulfilling their fantasies leads to more than just keeping a promise and saving a friend, will they be able to overcome the barriers that stand between them and forever?

Allow me a minute to cool off.
First off, I recomend reading this series in order, so you can have a real feel for all the characters in it. Secondly, read it alone and with no interruptions.

Payne is such a good character. Fighting with his nature all along and at the same time wanting to give it freedoom. And Elissa is a very strong character, willing to do anything she can to get what she wants.

The chemiestry between them is amazing and the steamy is off the charts. Felicity Heaton is a master at balancing super hot scenes and the story of her characters in the books.

This is a MUST read.

DARKNESS FALLS by Erin Kellison

Agent Malcolm Rook is hunting for people with the rarest of talents—the ability to master dreams. He finds the undeniably gifted Jordan Lane, but she’s wary of mysterious Rook and resists his pursuit as long as she can. Yet the dreamwaters they enter are too exhilarating to resist, and attraction soon ignites electric passions. Delving too deep stirs a nightmare, one they must defeat, or be forever lost to darkness.

This story is a little confusing at first, I wasn't sure what's going on and to be honest I almost give up on it. As the first in the series I was expecting a little bit more info on the world here but after a while is was easier to understand the world Erin present us.

Malcom is a very misterious character while Jordan is easier to connect with. The way they meet and feel atracted to each other is fast and hard and they unknown things they face together are darker than what they look.

The whole premise of the world Erin is presenting us here is interesting and I'm really looking foward to see how this continues with Jordan's sister.

ROGUE’S PASSION by Laurie London

Blaming himself for the death of a friend, Iron Guild warrior Asher Kane vows to bring those responsible to justice. After he’s hurt on a mission and nursed back to health by a beautiful yet mysterious woman, this dangerously sexy bad-boy finds himself falling for Olivia…even as he struggles to stay away. But stalking them on the streets of New Seattle is a cruel and vengeful evil—one that threatens to destroy them both…

The story starts off really good, it catches you from the start and the way Asher and Olivia cling to each other in order to survive makes for a great story.

There were some things I wasn't so sure about... I think the author should have presented it differently for my taste... and the whole agreement wasn't presented in it's full potencial.

Regardless it makes for an interesting story and really presents a world I'd like to keep reading.

THE FORBIDDEN LIFE OF ALEX MOORE by Erin Quinn

Alex’s mission: Kill the hellhounds that have invaded earth and return to his home in the Beyond. But from the start, things go horribly wrong. The hounds are cunning and a human female witnesses their attack—she intervenes and saves Alex’s life. Now he must keep the alluring Lilly alive while fighting his desire for her. When passion flares, Alex risks all to protect her and defend the forbidden life he craves.

I really enjoyed this one. While it was short it presented enough of the world for me to understand what was happening and it also presented enough to make want to pick up the other full novels in this world.

Lily lives alone with 5 dogs her sister left her after she died. Alex is sent to earth to kill the hellhounds that should be here.

When the two meet atraccion flows, but the are many reasons Alex shouldn't give in.

This is a great story about good and evil. About how different the realms in earth can be and how everything can evolve.

To be honest, what I liked the most about this story is the great dane and her hellhound... those dogs stole the spotlight!

THE MATING HEAT by Bonnie Vanak

Werewolf Kara Mitchell fled with her brother Aiden to Montana after their alpha father punished her for kissing sexy omega werewolf Ryder Carrington. Left scarred by her father’s cruelty, Kara believes no one can love her. After killing his alpha to save the pack, Ryder now rules, but needs a mate. His blood runs hot for Kara. Ryder will do anything to claim her, even risk an all-out pack war that could cost them everything…

I'm not too sure about this one. The story was good and Ryder ended up winning me over but I felt like the characters weren't fully developed.

Ryder and Kara suffered a lot of pain at the hands of her father and former alpha. When Ryder kills him to save the pack he forces Kara back with the intention of convincing her to be his mate.

Ryder healed more easily and he helps Kara see herself the same way the rest of them sees her: as a sweet girl who always protects the pack.
I would have liked a bit more to their stories and the way they dealed with their scars, but the love story was great anyway.

TRAPPED by Caris Roane

Mastyr Vampire Zephyr, a one-man fighting force, struggles to save the life of a woman who despises his warrior ways. She’s been a thorn in his side, but he has one goal: to keep her safe. For Alesia, however, she just wishes he’d leave her alone since she can never approve of his profession. She broke up with him months ago and wants to start a new life. The trouble is, he’s still the one man who can curl her toes.

I really enjoyed this story. The relationshp between the two characters was already devoleped and still it was easy to follow. The reasons they stayed apart of each other felt real and it make the novella all the more interesting.

Zephyr is a warrior who believes the evil he hunts has no salvation, so he kills them. Even when his point of view is what is keeping the woman he loves away from him.
Alesia belives that eveyone can be saved and she can't accept what Zaphyr does so easily.

When danger comes knocking on her door and they have to face death what they both belived was the only way isn't so easy to see anymore.

I love the dinamic between the characters. The way they had valid reasons to stay away and a hundred others to be together.

I'd really like to see what the other books in the series bring to this world.

Walking down the lane from the pub I decide to take a detour to the beach. The light is fading but the glimmer of light from the sun setting on the horizon is just enough that I can make my way down the path without landing on my face.

I spend a lot of time on the beach at night. This isn’t like the beach in Newquay which is filled with drunks attempting to get it on under the cover of darkness. Our quiet beach in St Agnes is perfect for a solitary ten minutes. If I go home now I know Aunt May will be twitching around me like she has the last half a year, ever since my life ended at the end of one drunken night. She doesn’t know what to say to help my get out of the ‘phase’ I’m going through. Six months in, I think we can rule out the chance of it being a phase. This is just me. I’m a guy without a plan. Aunt May tries, but having her wandering around wringing her hands, asking me every three minutes if I’m hungry and need some food is not a relaxing way to spend an evening.

I don’t know what people want. Do they expect that one day I will wake up and suddenly be over the fact that I carelessly lost my girlfriend one night?

As I walk down onto the beach I keep thinking of Faye’s words. “Bridge Cottage.” “Painting.” “Mum and Dad.” They hammer inside my head.

I know everyone is waiting for me, for some resolution. They want to know that I’ve let go of the past, and that if I can do it, they all can too. But I can’t. I want them to, but I can’t do it myself. I can’t even acknowledge to myself what happened. I can’t even think about it or let the thought enter my mind.

Small steps, that’s what a counselor told me a few months ago. “Just take small steps, Josh, and everything will work out.” Today I have picked up a paint brush and drunk a pint of cider. That’s got to be two small steps in the right direction. I’m not sure what direction those things are taking me in, but it’s heading somewhere at least.

As I tread over the dark sand I can see someone sitting on my rock. That’s just plain rude. Everyone knows it’s mine.

Edging myself closer, I slip off my flip flops and sink my toes into the cool sand as I walk down the beach and try to get close enough to investigate without being seen.

It’s her.

My feet come to a grinding halt.

I want to move in the opposite direction but my damn legs won’t listen. Instead I stand there, looming behind her on the sand, like an axe murderer.

“I can see your silhouette in the sand.”

Busted.

“What are you doing?” On my rock?

“Thinking. What are you doing?”

“Thinking too.”

“That’s nice.

“Yes it is.”

I stand there like an idiot working out what to say next. “Nice bangles.”

Thanks. They make me walk like a percusssion instrument.

“Why so many?”

“None of your business, dreadlock boy.”

“Well you’re a charmer aren’t you?”

“I was sitting here first. You’re the one with the stalking, stealth-like sand walk.”

“It’s my rock.” It’s my rock? It’s my rock? Really. . .?

She does not say anything. Let’s be realistic there is not much to say to that comment. She just sits there looking out to the sea, and I stand there my feet sunk into the cool sand.

“I like your dreadlocks," she says after an age has passed.

“Thanks. They're a lifestyle choice.”

She turns to look at me and for a moment, just one brief moment my mind swirls with colours. The make-up is gone and the waning sun illuminates her skin. She look different. So different. A better different.

I should walk away. I don’t talk to holiday makers unless I’m taking their money in the shop.

I don’t.

Instead I fold my legs and sit on the sand, my fingers automatically picking up a splinter of driftwood as I cast my eyes up at the sun and then I start to draw.

“So do you have a name girl with the bangles?” I’m trying to remember what the young girl who was with her in the shop called her yesterday. Becca? Something like that?”

Turning to me with a frown on her face she bites her lower lip. Jeez, I only asked her name.

The frown and the angry glare instantly make me recall her name. “Bex.” I answer for her. The frown deepens.

“No one calls me that, only my sister.”

“Well I don’t know what else to call you?” I prompt. Her feistiness is rather amusing, it’s actually doing a good job of distracting me from the usual shit I try to keep out of my head.

Her top lip curls a little in distaste at my goading. She really doesn’t want to tell me her name. Who doesn’t want people to know their name? My eyes flick over her with a little more interest. She is rather pretty. Hot, Dan would call it. But I would go with pretty. Pretty is a more delicate sounding word, easy to pair with the freckles and flame hair.

Oh good god. I’ve realized what I am doing? I’m looking at another girl. I try and turn myself away from her a little. She must register the motion because she speaks, her voice low like she is sharing a secret.

“Rebecca.” She clears her throat. “My name is Rebecca.”

Something about her low tone makes me cast my eyes back over her. Well not exactly willingly, my eyes just won’t damn behave themselves and head straight back to the smooth sunlit skin.

She looks nervous, her fingers brushing over her overload of bangles.

“Does Rebecca have a second name?” My feet do this bizarre thing where they scoot over the sand towards her toes.

“No.”

“What no surname? So you are Rebecca No Name?”

She scowls further. “Yes. I am Rebecca No Name.”

Her tone and the death stare she lays on me make me do something I am not expecting in the least. I laugh. Fucking loud. I laugh like I never stopped.

“Well Rebecca No Name. I am Joshua Adams, it’s a pleasure to meet you and your bangles.”

I lean forward and shake her hand my fingers grazing against hers, sand rolls between our connected skin.

Rebecca No Name digs her toes into the sand, burying them deep. “Walters. It’s Rebecca Walters.”

“Bex Walters, now that has a nice ring to it.”

“It’s Rebecca Walters.” She spits her name out like it burns her lips to say it.

“Okay, okay.”

“So Rebecca Walters where are you on holiday from?”

“Nowhere.”

Seriously. It’s like talking to a wall. I don’t even know why I am still sitting here. This makes an evening with Aunt May look like a social highlight.

I get up and start to brush the sand from my legs.

The girl with attitude stares up at me from the ground and I hesitate. “London. I come from London, and I’m not on holiday. My family have moved into Bridge Cottage.”

Just like that the air gushes out of my lungs. The girl with the attitude and the wrong clothes and the frown lives in the house that I was fully expecting to move into one day. The cottage I expected to grow old in.

I sit back on the sand with a bump.

“I am leaving though, in two weeks.” Her gaze is on the sea as she speaks. “Two weeks. I’ve just got to get through two weeks.” She repeats almost to herself.

Two weeks of what?

“Who are you running from?”

Rebecca, Bex, the girl with the attitude turns to me, her eyes hidden in the shadows of the dipping sun. “Myself.”
And that I just don’t know how to answer, so I don’t. I pick my stick back up and start to draw some more.

Review: Rules of Survival by Jus Accardo

1:00 PM 0 Comments
Rules of Survival by Jus Accardo
Pulished: June 2nd, 2014
Publisher: Embrace (Entangled)
*Ebook provided by the publisher in exchange of an honest review*

If you want to survive, you have to follow the rules…

Mikayla Morgan is wanted for her mother's murder. She's been on the run for almost a year now, avoiding not only the police but the real killer. Tired of running and desperate to clear her name, she breaks one of the most sacred rules: never return to the scene of the crime.

Every bounty hunter on the Eastern Seaboard is after the Morgan girl—but Shaun Denver and his partner snagged her. She's a piece of work, and Shaun can't decide if he wants to kiss her or kill her. When things take a sharp turn south, Shaun does the only thing he can think of to keep her close—he handcuffs them together.

As the danger mounts and the killer closes in, the chemistry between them threatens to explode. Shaun and Kayla will need to break all the rules if they hope to get out of this alive.

She did it again, loves!

If you read my preview reviews on Jus Accardo's writing you probably alreadybfigure out I fangirl BIg time over her. I love anything she writes and Rules of Survival is no exception.

Rules of Survival is the perfect combination of suspense, action, witty comments and raw feelings.

Makayla Morgan has been on the run for a year now after beign acused of murdering her own mother, but in truth, she's beign running her whole life. All she's used to it is to blend in, to never trust anyone and to use her brain to get her out of difficult times.
But Kayla had to go back to the place her mom died to try to figure out what and who she's running from. And that's where we first find her.

Patrick Tanner is a bounty hunter. He's been after the Morgan girl all his life and this time he has a little help to capture Kayla. Meet Shaun Denver. Hot, smart, witty, tattoed (we all love some inked guys) and absolutely infuriating.

Where Kayla is the kind of person who needs a plan to feel secure and know where she's going, Shaun is the type who jumps into the situations and goes with it. Kayla is the brains, she's not a fighter AT ALL but she can deliver some serious BS to get her out of trouble. Shaun on the hand will use those pretty muscles without a second thought.

What I loved most about this book is how Jus managed to keep the suspence, giving us little pieces of information at sthe time to keep the story going but still being able to surprise you with the final outcome.
The characters feel real. Both have past that haunts them in their own way and things they aren't ready to face. Jus managed to make them  Bad-Ass and vulnerable at the same time.

And of course the fact that (like any of her books) Jus just throws you into the story in the first page. It manges to capture and hold you in until the last page and then, it leaves you wanting more. She presents the story in a easy short way and continues with an opening act full of action and just goes from there.

Rules of Survival is an intense read you don't wanna miss!

Excerpt

“Please mom,” I say, whining. “I really don’t want to go.”

“Sinta, you know I love it when you help me out, but this conversation is getting old. We’ve been going round and round like this for months. You’re going, end of story.” She pulls into an empty parking space and turns off the car. “I’ll help you with your things,” she says, popping the trunk.

Feeling defiant, and with nothing else to lose, I cross my arms and don’t move. She opens her door and gets out. I hear her saying good morning to some of the other parents and kids, but I don’t budge.

I recognize the kids passing my car with their bags either in their hands or over their shoulders. Some look my way and smile. Some even wave enthusiastically. All are in grades below mine. With this being my senior year, I don’t expect many others from my class to be here. Like I told my mom, band camp isn’t needed for anyone’s college application, especially since most of us seniors applied for college last summer or during the beginning of first semester. Besides Mia and Ian, I expect to be hanging around a bunch of younger kids.

Through the side mirror I see my mom coming up to my door. I quickly lock it. Childish? Yes.

She raps on the window and, when I don’t answer, she raps again, this time faster and harder. When I still ignore her she leans closer to the window. “For the love of God, if you keep it up I will unlock this door and drag your skinny tail out and strangle you in front of everyone here and still make you get on that bus.”

My mom has never hit me before, she’s full of threats and they usually prove empty. I turn to see her glaring daggers at me.

The look on her face says that she intends to do as she said and more. I open the door and step out and around her. I grab my duffle and sleeping bag from the trunk and head to the bus.

“Aren’t you going to at least kiss me goodbye?” she yells out after me.

“I can’t. I need to hurry. I don’t want the fun to start without me.”

“Sinta!”

Without turning I raise my hand in the air, saying bye. Of course she’ll be mad for a little while, but then she’ll start missing me. I’m her only daughter and she forced me to go on a trip I didn’t want to take. I think by tomorrow afternoon she’ll be calling the camp to check up on me.

I set my things next to the other bags on the ground by the side of the bus and climb the stairs. I only stop briefly to see if Mia has made it yet.

Yep.

She and Ian are huddled in a back seat, kissing.</ span>

Lovely. The fun is starting already.

I walk down the aisle, passing ninth and tenth graders. Closer to the back are the eleventh graders and, taking up the last three rows, the twelfth graders. Myles Jackson or MJ as he’s called and Shayla Day have a seat across from Mia and Ian. Seeing MJ surprises me, because he’s a jock and the number one football prospect from Michigan. He doesn’t need band camp to go on any application. Michael and Aaron take up another seat, with MJ’s best friend Eric and his girlfriend Melissa across from them. Then there’s Daniel and Andrew taking up a seat, and across from them is an empty one.

“We saved you a seat,” Mia says, pulling her mouth away from Ian’s long enough to talk and breathe.

“Thanks,” I say sliding into it. I put my ear buds in and pull the hood of my Huron Band sweatshirt over my head.

Just as soon as I close my eyes I feel the dip in my seat. Opening one, I peek to catch a glimpse of Wade Hill squeezing into the seat next to me.

“Sorry, Sinta,” he says, after settling in. “I asked Mrs. Franklin for my own seat but she told me there wasn’t enough room. Mrs. Burgess told me to sit next to you, since you’re so skinny.”

I close my eyes. This is a punishment.</ div>

I hear the creak of the door closing and, after a few minutes, the bus begins to move.

“Testing, testing,” Ms. Burgess’ voice projects over the loud speaker. She’s the new young teacher who just started teaching at our school this year. “How about I sing everyone a nice little lullaby to get you all to sleep, hmm?

Oh. My. God.

“Can someone please tell her she isn’t auditioning for American Idol,” I mutter.

Wade laughs. His meaty arm brushes up against mine as he does.

Let the fun begin.
